When we look at society today, it doesn’t take a magnifying glass to see the problems. My generation and the one coming up behind us are walking into a world that is a mess. A world without order. Take a look at the news tonight. Utter chaos. The morals that used to guide our nation are now seen as offensive. Standing up for belief in God and in the absolute truths of His word is becoming increasingly difficult. The culture in America is changing, has changed. And it’s not looking so good. Look at the latest Hollywood flick, and you’ll see enough perversion to hopefully convince you that I’m right. |
Sex, profanity, violence, scandal, drugs. That’s just scratching the surface of what you can find, and it’s all seen as “normal.” Even for many Christians. I’m sorry, but "normal" isn’t going to cut it for me anymore. I don’t want to be "normal" or take part in this "normal."
This "normal" is getting us nowhere.
I refuse to settle for this picture of society as the way it has to be. I might be just one person, but I am one person with the ability to do something. God has given me this message of a hope unshaken though surrounded by a world in turmoil. This message needs to be heard.
As we look at this picture of society in all its messy brokenness, it's easy to feel both apathy and fear. But we can't stay stuck in apathy or paralyzed in fear. God is calling us to stand up. To persevere. We need to run the race He has set before us and urge everyone we meet to join us. The world may fall apart, but we don't have to. Even if disaster strikes, we don't have to be shaken. We can stand firm as we lead others to a hope and faith in the God who saves.
Stand up with me, and let's do something! This "normal" has got to go.
"I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken."
-Psalm 16:8

I was given permission to use this picture by Trenton Seegers. He took the picture and posted it with a caption comparing the picture to society today. "Messy. Disgusting. Disoriented." I asked Trenton if I could use his picture for this blog post. This young man has great talent with a camera. More importantly, though, he is wise beyond his years. I’m so proud of him and who he is becoming. If you want to see more of Trenton's pictures, check out his Facebook page here.
