I wish I could have captured these moments somehow so I could save them forever.
In these moments, time seemed to stop, and the beauty of life held me captive.
Moments like these…
- Sitting next to Kamryn behind the barn, our feet dangling, watching the kittens jump and play in the tall grass. Side by side we sat there and just enjoyed the quiet moments together.
- Picking apples and seeing the simple delight on all three of my nieces faces as they bit into the sweet apples straight from the tree. Is there anything quite so simple yet so happy?
- Watching Kyla, her eyes bright, as she marveled over each new discovery. A frog, a leaf, grasshoppers and crickets. Each new discovery reminded me of all the miracles of life and nature and the simple joy of living.
- Taking Kyla to tell her kittens goodnight and watching as she gave Bear a goodnight kiss, her love for the furry animal so evident.
- Lying on a blanket under a tree with Kamryn, singing a silly, made-up version of Down by the Bay. She watched me with such joy and love on her face. I think I could have kept singing for hours and she would have been content to stay with me and laugh at silly things that only three year olds can understand.
- Holding hands with Kyla and Kamryn as we walked down the gravel road so we could see the sunset and hearing their excited cries when they saw the bright orange sun casting shades of colored light across the fields.
These moments reminded me of something so important. They reminded me of the simple beauty and miracle of life. They also reminded me of what is most important in life.
To-do lists will always be there. But these moments with my nieces, their eyes so full of care-free wonder, they won’t always be here. How often do we stop and enjoy the simple things? Are we too busy to even notice them? When a child comes to you with a new discovery, do you see life through their eyes? Or with the tainted and often jaded eyes of a busy adult?
These moments…
These simple yet blissful moments are a gift. A precious gift from God to remind us of His creativity, his love.
Are you missing them?
