But more than any of that, more than the wind and the waves that threaten us, when I look back on the last week I see the arms of Jesus holding us up and carrying us through. When I focus on the faithfulness of God and His grace for each moment, the rest fades into the background.
Yes, the struggle is still very much there. We are still in the midst of a very real battle.
The difference is my focus.
When I focus on the circumstances, I forget the great and mighty and completely faithful God I serve. I have to choose to lift my eyes up and fix my gaze on Jesus. I have to put my focus on the Healer rather than the need for healing.
When I focus on Jesus and His promises, I know that no matter what comes, I can stand.
Maybe more than any other week before, I have found myself saying, “God is so faithful.” That is not just some cliché phrase I say to fill the awkward silence. It is the truth that I stand on. It is the truth that keeps me anchored, firm and secure.
God is faithful, no matter what comes. He was just as faithful two weeks ago as He is today and as He will be tomorrow.
This morning as I was driving to work, I heard these lyrics on the radio. Another reminder that we are being held in His arms... safe and loved and never alone.
You will be safe in His arms.
The hands that hold the world are holding your heart.
This is the promise He made, He will be with you always.
When everything is falling apart, you will be safe in His arms.
‘Cause these are the hands that built the mountains, the hands that calm the sea.
These are the arms that hold the lame and they are holding you and me.
These are the hands that heal the leper, pull the lame up to their feet.
These are the arms that were nailed to the cross to break our chains and set us free.
You will be safe in his arms.
-Safe by Phil Wickham
"I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you-- the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."
Psalm 121
