We hear that phrase so often. We sing it over and over again... But have you really stopped to think about all that it means for you?
A couple of months ago, in the days before my grandma died, I spent a lot of hours in the car. I first heard Matt Maher’s song, “Amen- Because He Lives” on one of those trips to spend time with Grandma before God took her home. I remember how much the song spoke to me in those tough days. I listened to it many times as we walked Grandma to her heavenly home. The words to the song gave me a renewed hope. Because He lives, we could face tomorrow. Grandma could face death and walk into her heavenly Father’s arms without fear! With joy even!
Now, as Easter is here, this is the “focus” of most Christians. We sing about how Jesus lives, and death has been defeated. We sing about how He rose up from the grave. We sing about the victory we have because of Christ.
I wonder, though, how often we really stop and think about the magnitude of it all.
I know that I don’t think about it nearly enough.
For those of us who grew up in the church, saying that ‘Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins’ was as easy to say when we were 7 as our ABC’s were. Add 20 years and it’s easy to not even think about what a BIG deal that is!!
Can we really say that Jesus died for us without stopping to think of his crazy, selfless love?
Can we really say that Jesus was crucified without pausing to consider all that He gave up in order to save a broken people? A people who clearly didn’t deserve it.
In the days leading up to Jesus’ death, he was betrayed by those closest to him. His best friends turned their backs on him. And yet, he STILL chose to die a horrible death, in order to save them. To save us. That is a kind of love we can’t even comprehend.
It’s beyond our ability to understand. It is crazy love.
We have such amazing hope, because of the Easter story. A hope that can never be taken from us!
Because Jesus lives, we can face tomorrow and all the uncertain times that are before us. Because He lives, we don’t have to be afraid of what is to come. Because He lives, there is hope for the future!
We are loved by a God who gave up EVERYTHING in order to pay the price for our sins, our brokenness. What a glorious hope and promise we have in Christ. The stone has been rolled away. Christ is alive! Death has been defeated!
There is victory in Christ for all who believe. Put your faith in Jesus, and walk in that victory today.
